Jodi Picoult is an author that has been very popular with our older readers, especially junior and senior girls, though some younger girls have read her too! Ms. Picoult's book endings always have a surprising twist. Some readers have told me they have thrown her books across the room when they got to the end, the ending is that surprising!
You may have seen the movie based on her book "My Sister's Keeper." The book is so much better than the movie. They took the wonderful ending and made it into a pat little ending. So disappointing! One of our substitute teachers recently read it. She left me a note that said, "Oh, my gosh! It was so good!" She read it in two days (it's not a short book!). She plans to check out more Picoult books at her local public library, as she is only here sporadically.

Another really popular book by Ms. Picoult is "Nineteen Minutes." It took me a long time to work up the courage to read this book because it is about a school shooting. I guess it hit too close to home. Once I did read it, I found it to be very well written. I think boys would find it a good read also.
Check out the many Picoult books in the library. She tackles current topics with a surprising twist.
